End of Day 2

Pikey was moved, during the evening, to Ward 3. There appeared to be slight improvement in her condition overnight. Robyn came up on the train from Hampshire. Robyn, Elinor and I got into Ward 3 about 2 p.m. at the start of visiting hours to find Pikey “spark out” and breathing very slowly and heavily.

Dr Howarth, the haematologist at Lancaster came in to see her and immediately ordered her off the morphine which was conflicting with her renal function. She was still shaking violently at times (due to the lack of calcium) and there was minor (to put it mildly) panic while they stabilised her condition as best they could. This evening she was moved to the Intensive Care Unit where there is one to one nursing so they can effectively monitor her progress.

They do no know whether the renal failure is due to the myeloma (bad news) or some other cause (less bad news).

Maybe we will know more tomorrow; at least she is in safe hands tonight.

The usefulness of the blog proved itself because we had 58 hits yesterday which implies that I avoided the repetition of at least 50 upsetting phone calls.
