It was always going to happen one day.

This morning (Thursday) Pikey lost her footing while transferring from her bed to her wheelchair and snapped her tibia. This was always going to be the Achilles heel of our lives as a result of the multiple myeloma and we often thought how lucky we were that it hadn’t happened before.

So it as off to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary again but at least she had enjoyed nine whole days at home.

They confirmed that the break as a clean one right across the leg a short way below the knee. She is in Ward 35 and her phone number in the hospital is now 07041140109 and then ask for 3906. Don’t forget to ask her to ring you back as incoming calls cost 49p per minute but her calls to you are free.

The prognosis is quite good and we are waiting to hear whether they are going to insert yet more metal into her right leg or plaster it and let then it heal naturally if that is possible with multiple myeloma.

The ward she is now on is one where she has been before and made her mark so much so that Robert didn’t have to tell them to call her Pikey!!!! It’s a million million times better than Ward 4!!!

Robert is seeing the “Modern Matron” at Ward 4 on Tuesday and he now has direct evidence of the differing standards in the same hospital.

More anon.
