.. and we thought bears liked honey at least Winnie the Pooh did!!Edward came on Friday just after we zapped last week’s blog into the ether. We had lots of discussions about whether or not Robert goes to the States to see him, Susie and Hugo. Plenty of them were inconclusive. In the end we finally came to the conclusion, with many regrets, that it was just not worth the mental anxiety.
In fact Pikey has not yet recovered from her fall which seems to have affected the right hand side of her collar bone which has already been reconstructed once. She has great difficulty in getting around and is now nearly totally reliant on some one else getting her to the loo etc etc - awkward in the middle of the night.
We are in touch with Social Services about help and are having the shower room door widened to allow a proper wheelchair in. We will see what ideas they come up with.
It was really lovely to see Edward but he went back on Monday morning. We had had time to catch up with all his news; he has left the Financial Times – with a healthy severance package – and he’s going freelance.
The stair lift conked out on Wednesday and so poor Pikey was stuck upstairs for 36 hours. It was been patched up yesterday and we are now waiting for a new part. We’ve got to be really careful with it as it has a piece of cardboard wedged in one of its sensors to keep it working. Oh, the wonders of modern technology!
The really good news is the fact that NICE have sanctioned the use of Revlimid for multiple myeloma sufferers – this is one of the next generation drugs which we had heard about for a long time. We could have got it on our health insurance for 6 months but this ensures Pikey can have it ad infinitum. Actually Revlimid works in much the same way as Pikey’s current drug, thalidomide, which is "doing the business" so we still have another line of defence.
