Today we are hanging about at home waiting for a call from the hospital in Preston to tell us when to go in for Pikey’s operation which is due to take place tomorrow morning. She is the only one on the list and it is due to take about 6 hours!! So there will be no point in Robert going in tomorrow and he plans to go in on Sunday after which there will be an update.
Yesterday we spent all day at the hospital having the pre-operative checks necessary because of her underlying myeloma condition. The concern is that the screws, necessary to secure the new framework which will hopefully straighten up her spine, may not hold in her bone structure which multiple myeloma weakens. Hopefully they all seem to know what they are doing – anyway you have got to believe that unless you want to go absolutely mad.
She will stay in the Preston Hospital which has all the necessary kit and then be transferred to Fulwood Hall, the private hospital, to convalesce.
We were due to go on holiday in Northumberland towards the end of September but are thinking of cancelling that.
Robert’s left knee is no better and we have not yet got a date to see the specialist.
