We got home on Sunday and immediately plunged into a medical week.

On Monday Pikey saw her haematologist and he gave her a clean bill of health from the tests carried out in June. She has her next appointment on November 19th unless anything nasty shows up on the blood tests done on Monday.

On Tuesday, Robert (hereinafter known as Hoppity) saw our GP about his left knee which is giving him considerable gyp (spelling???) and was sent for an X-ray on Wednesday – result next week. Pikey’s major back operation is due to take place at the beginning of September. In consequence of all this medical uncertainty he has decided to postpone his planned trip to see Edward and Susie in New York from the autumn until next spring.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of using someone else’s wireless Internet connection without permission. Officers spotted the man using a laptop as he sat on a wall outside a house in Chiswick, West London, on Tuesday. He was arrested and later released on police bail to November 11 pending further inquiries.

"This arrest should act as a warning to anyone who thinks it is acceptable to illegally use other people’s broadband connections," said Detective Constable Mark Roberts, of the Metropolitan Police. Computer users need to be aware that this is unlawful and police will investigate any violation we become aware of." The practice, known as piggybacking, breaches the Computer Misuse Act and the Communications Act.

Earlier this year, a man and a woman were arrested in the Midlands for wireless theft as they sat in their cars. Gregory Straszkiewicz, from west London, is believed to be the first person to be convicted of the offence in 2005. He was fined £500 and given a 12-month conditional discharge.
