We have had an exhausting and, at times, very frustrating week.
On Saturday morning first thing the stair lift seized up and would move neither up nor down. Luckily it did this at the top and Pikey was upstairs.
They could not come to look at it until Sunday when the first engineer came out and told us it was a very rare fault- the levelling motor had packed up. He ordered a new motor but, of course, the stores were shut over the weekend so the new one and the second engineer did not arrive until Tuesday.
He said that it wasn't the levelling motor at all - it was a loose screw in the main drive motor which had gouged whole chunks out of the rail. So he tightened up the offending screw and ordered a new section of the rail which he said was a "standard" part.
By Wednesday Pikey rang up the office to be told the offending part had to be specially made and so it would not be available until "next week". At this point the air went a delicate shade of blue.
Later that day they rang back to say the third engineer would be with us on Thursday morning. The new rail section arrived by courier on Thursday morning and had the date "25.08.2010" marked on it!!!
Anyway all was well and by teatime on Thursday the thing was up and working (or should I say "up and down and working")
All this time Pikey was marooned upstairs and all food and supplies had to be ferried upstairs, Robert squeezing past the stalled machine. To crown it all Robert's back then decided to play up but he's been having physio which seems to have been very effective.
Not much time for anything else to happen!!! - luckily.
If you thought last week's Christian names were weird have a gander at these ones.
Pikey's cousin Chris Martin reacted to my story about the out-break of World War II to say that he was in church on the Sunday when war was declared. Someone came up to the vicar, whispered in his ear and the vicar then went into the pulpit to tell us the news, said a quick prayer and we all went home instead of a sermon. Chris now wishes that war would be declared every Sunday!
Loads of ♥♥♥♥♥♥ from Robert and Pikey
