The old wigs are ready and being dusted down!!

The new chemo, Velcade, has the possible side effect of making your hair fall out. It hasn’t happened yet but Pikey’s head is a little bit sore. She’s lost her hair twice before so we know what to expect – at least it will save on the hairdresser who comes to see us at home. "Hairy Mary", as she is known, has a salon in a basement in Kirkby Lonsdale which is totally and utterly non-accessible to disabled folk – Robert can just about struggle down the steep stairs to her dungeon. So she comes here for a chat and a cuppa while she cuts our hair.

The dreaded nausea normally associated with any form of chemo is, of course, present but the anti-sickness drugs seem to be working except for last Saturday when poor Pikey threw up just after she had taken the pill – the result was a whole day in bed feeling ghastly.

The really odd thing is that although the hospitals in Barrow and Lancaster are both in the same NHS Trust they operate entirely different procedures in administering Velcade – you would think that with a new and very very expensive drug that they would have laid down, if not an NHS-wide, at the least a trust-wide procedure. For instance, one hospital got Pikey to sign a consent form and the other didn’t, one hospital completed the procedure with a saline drip and the other didn’t. We just have to assume that they all know what they are doing at the cutting edge of medicine.

We have had a painter here for the last two weeks painting the outside paint-work, the garden benches, the gates and the old pigeon loft. He’ll be here for at least another week.

Another wave picture....
...and another wildlife one.
Loads of love ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from Robert and Pikey.
