Well surprise, surprise - we are still in a communications blackout. At least if you ring us on our normal phone number you should be transferred to our new mobile which we have had to go out and purchase. But, of course, the emails pile up and we can’t tell what has been said to us while "the lights have been out"
Robert had a very quiet birthday on Monday because the mobile had been switched off and we did not know. Elinor showed us how to lock and unlock it so we can now carry it around in our pockets without switching it off!
Robert went for a check up upon Monday and the quack could find nothing untoward. Pikey went to see her orthopaedic consultant yesterday and he has discharged her. He warned her there were only about two or three inches in her right leg which were not metal reinforced now; so he knows exactly where it will fracture next time!!!
Today we have been entertaining two Assistant Keepers from the Ashmolean Museum and arranging for the gift of the Thomas Combe shields to them. Sad to see them go but they are historical artefacts and Oxford is the best place for them. They will be restored (all 65 of them) and put up in the Pre-Raphaelite galleries there.
We now wait impatiently for BT to mend their cable; in the meantime Robert has taken up cross stitch again to keep on an even keel mentally – he can’t do any work on his family research without the internet.

OK, now I'm worried you haven't gotten my email -- so I'm sticking my thanks here. THANK YOU for the absolutely fabulous books for Hugo. I mean a book with a built-in track and wind up toy? Amazing. Now, if only I can stop playing with it and give H a chance. But seriously, many thanks for thinking of him and sending to far away places. He is a train freak and loves it.
