ROBERT'S BEEN CHEATED
When we bought the Craven Herald and Pioneer this morning we discovered to our chagrin and fury that Robert had not won the WI Plaque but it was won by someone else - a certain K Polkinghorn (no sex stated).
The programme stated that the award was for the best exhibit in the "adult handwork" classes so when his brilliant cross-stitch of delphiniums - it should be "delphinia" surely!! - was awarded a "best exhibit" rosette we thought he had won.
The most charitable explanation is that the winner has to be a member of the Women's Institute. Robert is not thinking of applying - he says they are all elderly and any way he doesn't know the words of Jerusalem.
