It's not easy to photograph acres and acres of heather when the sun will stay behind clouds and the wind is light. However I hope that you can get an idea of the extent of the heather even though that in the shade is rather darker than the sunlit ling. This week we had visits from Stephen and Gillian Marsden and Patrick and Rosemary Segrove.
It was lovely to see them all. We went with the Segroves to lunch at Slaidburn and saw the fantastic heather which has just erupted on the moors this year. There is literally acres and acres of it stretching all over the western slopes of all the valleys in the Forest of Bowland.
On the way back Patrick and I prospected two possible routes for Pikey to go on her Ferrari in the Gisburn Forest just over the tops above Stocks Reservoir.
On Tuesday we went to see the orthopaedic surgeon who is trying to help Pikey’s right foot and ankle which has been so swollen and distorted recently. Sadly he does not feel that he can do anything to help apart from providing physical support in the form on either instep wedges or a lightweight caliper fitted to a special boot – so on we go down that route.
After we saw the orthotist on Thursday, Robert tested out his ability to push Pikey in her wheelchair up and down the streets of Lancaster - she wanted to shop but as you will realise the control a husband has over a wife in awheel chair is enormous and he can avoid shops if he wants to despite female protestations.
Love from Pikey and Robert
