It’s been another hot week here in the “frozen North” - aka “the Sahara Desert”.
The garden is desperate for some rain and Robert has three gardens to water this week. Firstly our own, secondly the Tippings’ next ‘cos the’re away for six weeks visiting the Orkneys and the Shetlands and loads of friends on the way up and down and thirdly the Coopers’ veggie patch as they are in Thurlestone for the week. It would be super if we could get away but that’s just not possible until the plaster comes fully off – we see the orthopod on Friday next week – here’s hoping.
On Saturday an old school friend of Pikey’s came over from the other side of Yorkshire to see us and Robert produced cold salmon with salad and new potatoes followed by strawberries with whipped cream and meringues for pud. Not bad at all!!!
On Wednesday Robert went to a meeting of the Bentham and Ingleton First Responders and was presented with this beautiful glass bowl for all his efforts in helping to set it all up!! Pikey was given a fantastic bouquet of flowers.
The bowl was created by Stonegate Galleries in Low Bentham which is run by Gary and Annette McMilllan - he's a First Responder.
Today we had the first trial visit of a carer to help us run the house. She turned out to be super bubbly lady who has lived in Bentham all her life so we had plenty to talk about. She cooked a lamb joint and helped Pikey with some clearing up while Robert took Brindley for a good long walk for an hour and a half. We had been a trifle apprehensive about the whole thing but it was a success although the same carer is not guaranteed every time.
