At times life is a real sod the way it comes back and hits you smack in the face.
It was on January the second that Pikey split her right femur just above the knee. Since then she has not been able to put any weight on that leg.
So we were really buoyed up on Wednesday when the original brace was finally discarded and she was fitted with a different brace which enabled her to wear her caliper and boot and so begin to put weight on her leg.
On Thursday that euphoria was merely enhanced when we had a follow-up consultation with the surgeon who had screwed her leg back together. He said everything looked absolutely fine on the X-rays.
So home we came really looking forward to life getting to what we now consider normality. After our usual post-lunch nap Pikey got up to look out of the bedroom window at the garden which is just beginning to show real signs of Spring. There was a loud crack in her right knee.
We spent the evening and the best part of the night planning our trip back to the hospital convinced that her leg or knee had snapped again. You can imagine our despair.
I have just got back from the hospital. Apparently the leg which was screwed together came apart and has now wrecked the other side of her knee. No one was prepared to say what precisely they do next but she should be seeing the Registrar this evening and the Consultant tomorrow. Hopefully an operation tomorrow.
Poor old Pikey that will be three major ops in six months and more time in hospital but al least she recognises the nurses now.
We’re sorry that this post is depressed and gloomy but that’s the way we feel right now – we had planned a really jokey one – maybe next week.
I will keep you updated and hope that the news will improve soon.
Loads of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Robert and Pikey (in absentia).
