Back to normal (nearly) …………. Robert has got bored with "Infuriating Phrases" and is now into "Way beyond grumpy rants about modern life".

Rant No 1 The Sainsbury slogan "Try something new today!". All right I’ll will, I’ll go to Waitrose today.

Pikey can get around (with the aid of handles, sticks, wheelchairs, wheeled commode chairs and Robert) really quite well. However leaving Pikey alone in the house is really out of the question if only for the sake of Robert’s sanity (if he ever really was blessed with that commodity in anything like the normal quantity). So we were coping with life in the slow lane quite well………. that was, until the stair-lift packed up on Wednesday just as the District Nurse arrived to take out Pikey’s stitches. We got her back upstairs on her bum with Robert holding and guiding her right leg which is in the cast. So upstairs she stayed (with the bedroom, her sewing room, Robert’s study and the spare bedroom converted to a temporary sitting room) until the stair-lift was mended and this took nearly 48 hours but taught us how to cope with Pikey stuck up stairs.

The really nice man who finally came with the new spare part this morning walked in, calmly demanded a cup of tea, took one look at Brindley and said "I’ve been here before – she’ll bring me her toys!!". He is quite normal and lives with a horse, two dogs, a cat, a parakeet and a partner (female) – just the kind of person who goes down well in Summerhill Stables!!

By the way, the removal of the stitches by the District Nurse went off fine. All was OK under the cast and the bandages.

It’s been pissing with rain all week.

Next week Pikey is having a "stitch and bitch" session in her sewing room with her two greatest mates from the quilting group so Robert will be on tea and biscuit duty.
