Here is a picture of Robyn wearing Pikey’s wellies and another of Annie in Tony’s sandals …. both un-posed as Pikey recalls and Robyn confirms. The real question remains that if children take after a parent which one would they prefer to resemble …. do not even try to answer this question if they are both still alive!!!On Monday Pikey saw her haematologist for the first time since January.
She had the usual blood sample taken but the really important protein levels will not be known for another 3 or 4 weeks - normal as they have grow a culture to get the result. The consultant mentioned that Pikey would probably not be a suitable subject for Velcade which NICE have almost agreed to recommend for general release to the NHS in England; however he said he thought that Pikey could benefit from Revlimid which quite by coincidence was the subject, later this week, of a press release – see the Myeloma web site on http://www.myeloma.org.uk/. This is quite good news for Pikey but approval by NICE in England could well take another 3 or 4 years.
We went today to Preston to have Pikey’s back X-rayed and MRI-scanned as she still suffers from a lot of back pain; this is a result of spinal damage which to date is not thought to be connected with the underlying myeloma. In consequence of the pain she is on a fairly high morphine dose which makes her very sleepy. We now have an appointment to hear the results of these pictures on July 4th.
Gillian Marsden (and her daughter Gemma who's training to be chartered surveyor - will they never learn?!) came to lunch on Thursday - great fun and loads of laughter; they used to live in Tideswell and she helped run the Investment Club; they now live on the top road above Rushup Hall (will they never learn either?!)
As a result of comments posted on this site following last week’s post I am including a picture of Brindley (for Diana) – if you look carefully you will see that she is not actually looking at the allium (that’s the flower for those who don’t know) but at the bee which is hovering just the other side of the flower head.
....... also one of Billy Bremner (at Edward's request) he (that's BB not Edward!) is holding the FA Cup in 1972 but who are the others?

Evidence: Pompey won the FA cup in 1939. Not played again for 7 years. Had to be stored somewhere. This makes Pompey the longest holders of the FA cup until Derby COuntuy won in 1946.

Jack Tinn (PFC manager in 1939) was good mates with Len Hoad (landlord). Agreed that pub was an 'ideal safe haven' (I quote from Lovedean Village History). It was kept under a bed. Sheila Hoad visited the pub between 1960 and 1979 when David Higgins was landlord and recollected how she was born in the pub and sat in the Cup as a toddler!
PROOF: There is (apparently)a picture in the pub. No doubt it is screwed to the wall (a poor reflection on the state of the nation and the local mentality) so there will be no public outing of proof and having little interest in football myself I have never bothered to look at it (if indeed it is there?). If anyone wants proof then they are welcome to join Tony and I for a pint. I can receommend the HSB... (Horndean Special Brew, but hurry because Gales was taken over by Fullers and you just don't know what the Londoners will do to our local tipple....)First round on us if you come from outside Hampshire.... Come on down.
