We have had a Triple Mechanical Breakdown Week – and none of it our fault.
On Monday the stair lift decided to play silly buggers and started and stopped unexpectedly. It turns out that nearby radio controlled remote mechanisms can play havoc with the stair lift because its own hand held controls are also radio-controlled. The chief suspect is David’s garage door (next door) being operated at the same time as the stair lift was being used. David and Margaret have gone away and we have now had the frequency of the stair lift altered. It was bizarre to see the stair lift moving apparently of its own accord.
Yesterday the new DVD player installed on Wednesday malfunctioned and they are due to come and sort that out.
As you know, everything comes in threes, so yesterday the man from Zurich Insurance called to check out Pikey’s bath lift for the owners North Yorkshire County Council. He does this for Elf ‘n Safety reasons. Somehow he managed to bugger it up. So Robert rang Express Elevators, who maintain the lift for the NYCC, at 8 a.m. this morning. They lived up to their name and arrived at 10.30 a.m. – unbelievable. The engineer was baffled but confirmed that something internal, inexplicable and irreparable had occurred to the motor. So Pikey has no bath lift until Monday at the earliest while they source a new motor. Question was the man from the Zurich one of the gnomes?
Last weekend Mike and Anne Brown stayed on their way back from the Lake District. We had a super time. Tomorrow our three daughters (they come in threes as well) are arriving for the weekend. Stories and pictures in next week’s blog.
