We have had two examples this week of nature at its most raw.

On Monday two male great spotted woodpeckers sneaked into the pigeon palace - Robert had left the door open as it was a gloriuos day on Sunday. He managed to get them both out - eventually; the first in a bucket and the second by catching him by his tail.

The second event was a bit more dramatic and serious - and no happy ending. John Carr has been convinced that crows were killing his chickens and had been shooting them. He was puzzled to say the least when this did not appear to be stemming the loss of his hens. He noticed that they were reluctant, to say the least,to go into their hen house without some shooing. He looked inside the house and there was - guess what- a very large and plump hedgehog. Apparently, according to a local gamekeeper, hedgehogs, once they have got a taste for chicken do not give up. Of course, John was playing right into the hedghog's hands (or should we say paws) and forcing the hens to go right into the killing fields. Several of the surviviors have serious wounds on their bodies. The hedgehog is no longer!!

Pikey has had a much better week - it's been the first week of her third cycle. We think - fingers crossed - that we have solved her loo problems. Not sure that crossed fingers is the correct phrase - maybe crossed legs would be more apt.

We are off on holiday at the end of next week to a cottage for the disabled (rather than a disabled cottage) and we resisted the blandishments of this promotional video for our local airline.

Loads of love ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ from Robert and Pikey.
